According to author and privacy expert, Johnny May, its only a matter of time before you become a victim of identity theft.

July 5, 2004 -- May, an independent security consultant who specializes in protecting individuals and organizations from Identity Theft, is guest author on The Curious Mind, an Internet radio program hosted by Leisure Talk Radio Network.

Citing a Federal Trade Commission survey, May says, The crime of identity theft has reached epidemic proportions a whopping 27.3 million victims over the past five years. People need to treat their personal information like gold.

Utilizing a locking mailbox or a crosscut shredder can reduce your risk at home, May advises, and he encourages employers to monitor personal information and insure that guidelines are in place to reduce the risk of identity theft in the workplace.

Putting his knowledge into print, his new book, Johnny Mays Guide to Preventing Identity Theft, provides simple ways to secure your identity, reveals how thieves steal your personal information and offers step-by-step instructions should you become a victim.

A graduate of the Univ. of Detroit-Mercy, May earned his B.S. in Criminal Justice and his Masters in Security Administration. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit-Mercy, Madonna University and Henry Ford Community College.

May lectures extensively on security and crime prevention topics and has appeared on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, A&E Open Book, Comcast Newsmakers and scores of other television and radio shows. He has also been featured in publications such as Consumers Digest, Entrepreneur magazine and The Robb Report.
